Question:
American prescription prices are out of control! I’ve been buying my Risperdal and Effexor from Canada for 2 years and save almost 50%. I live on the Mexican border and buy Differin (Adaferin) acne gel there over the counter. A 45g tube costs $24 in Mexico while the same EXACT gel costs $75 in the U.S. The pharmaceutical companies are busy buying senators in an attempt to ban the importation of drugs. One corrupted senator actually had the nerve to say that importing drugs would allow "terrorists" to poison the supply.
Response:
the prices are so high partly because you are paying for all that advertising and drug company rep gifts for doctors. When the FDA started to allow television and other direct to consumer advertising of drugs our drug prices sky rocketed. Look at: http://makeashorterlink.com/?J1D5219F1 To see all the crap we Americans are paying for when we buy drugz. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >American prescription prices are out of control! >I’ve been buying my Risperdal and Effexor from Canada for 2 years >and save almost 50%. >I live on the Mexican border and buy Differin (Adaferin) acne gel >there over the counter. Response:
It’s simple supply and demand. Americans are "willing and able" to pay more for for their drugs, so the drug companies simply maximize profits based on this information. The hand of the drug companies is further strengthened when you consider that the demand for a needed drug is price-inelastic. -Rich
