I’ve been smoking for 32 years and have met more than a few assholes who deal, virtually all of those deal hard stuff too, but I refuse to deal with anyone who sells to kids or sells crack. fuck them people.  Still, I don’t think any of them are *worse* than Monsanto or Enron. In almost all of my time buying weed I’ve dealt with good family people who grow some to suplement their income.  The good people are out there and as with any business the market demand decides who stays in business and who goes under,  so if good people refuse to deal with scum the scum go sell crack and we can have decent, honest suppliers.  Legalization would help that.  Now, admittidly, I’ve had to go without from time to time because my conections were out but that isn’t a big deal, I’d quit if the only source was crack dealing scumbags.  Fortunately my community has a good group that sticks together for our mutual benifit.  I believe that any community could foster that unity,  people need to DEMAND co-operation and grow their own decent community – no one is going to do it for you and just like with the wider government participation of the individual is the only way things will get better. peace fuzzy — * "WE MUST BE THE CHANGE WE WISH TO SEE" *   – Mahatma Gandhi

Theres a good plan!  Go get some man made pills and hide in your home from the world. eat healthy, meditate some, go sit under an oak tree and comune with Mother Nature.  Get your head out of cartoons and video games and go outside. if you dont react well to pot then dont smoke it.  more for the rest of us. just dont turn your body over to profit mongering, corporate medicine.  They dont care if you get better, they just want you to have the most expensive meds they can convince you to pay for.

  • exhausted from effexor xr?

After taking Effexor XR for about 3 weeks and feeling better, I suddenly find myself completely exhausted – my muscles are so tired.  All I want to do is sleep even when I’m doing things I would normally enjoy. I also had some kind of somach virus a week ago but that’s been pretty well gone for several days so I don’t think it’s from that. Could the effexor suddenly be making me so exhausted? Louise

Heya Pete, I was on Avanza which along with sex-drive didn’t help with any of my other depression symptoms. I have been on Effexor for a week now and I’ve noticed that I am able to sustain an erection, plus it takes me much longer to orgasm… which I don’t have to tell you pleases my girlfriend. But on the other hand I still have never feel "horny" or feel the need for sex, and orgasms aren’t as pleasurable as they once where. If you don’t mind me asking you (and the group), when you where diagnosed with Depression did you have a normal sex drive, in other words feel "horny". Take Care, Casper.

    Response:

I was on Effexor (225mg/day) twice.  Once for 9 months and once for 6 months. It was the only antidepressant (of several I had tried before) which really worked well for me.  I first started taking it when it was fairly new and the noted loss of libido and sexual responsiveness was said to affect only about 3 percent of those tested.  When I first reported these effects to my pdoc, he didn’t think the Effexor was the culprit but said he would look into it.  By that time, the info he got was that some 10 percent of those taking Effexor might have such sexual side-effects and that I was just one of the unlucky ones.  Well, after doing some research on my own (newsgroups and mail lists, etc.)  I found that many, many people on Effexor were having the same problems.  I even found that some women were affected as well. I relayed this info to my pdoc and again he did some checking himself. That time he relayed to me that such sexual side-effects (in varying degree) were now being reported to and by pdocs for 50 percent or more of those taking it. He then added Wellbutrin to my Effexor thinking that the Wellbutrin might counter the sexual side-effects, at least to some degree.  Well, it didn’t.  The first time on Effexor, it was my decision to stop taking it. My libido came back and I did all right for a while.  But, after about 6 months I lapsed back into another major depression episode and had to jump back on the Effexor — with the same sexual side-effects.  Again, I couldn’t stand being sexually crippled.  What good was it being not so depressed if I couldn’t participate in one of life’s more enjoyable physical/emotional activities?  It negatively affected my wife as well as myself.  So, I stopped taking it again, but instead of going without any meds, I tried Wellbutrin by itself. That wasn’t as effective for me as an anti-depressant as was Effexor, but at least I was able to maintain my libido and such.   Another "bad" thing about Effexor for me were the side-effects while coming off of it.  I had a horrible 2-3 weeks each time.   =Jaguar= http://www.jaglair.com/psych/jag-psych-center.htm – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text —- Original Message — >I’m currently on Cipramil (called Celexa in some countries), 20mg/day. >I find it an extremely effective as an anti-depressant, but it does >massively lower the libido (sex-drive) and I have trouble achieving an >erection, let alone orgasm.  This isn’t a side-effect that will go >away after a while; I’ve been on the Cipramil for almost two years >I’ve told my doctor, and he suggested that Effexor is much better in >this department; ie that my libido would return to more-or-less normal >once I was on it for a few weeks. >Any males out there on Effexor who are ably to give me any feedback on >this delicate matter?  Or any other comments on Effexor generally – >ie: initial side-effects and how long they lasted, difficulties in >going off of it etc. would be greatly appreciated. >Peter.

Gee, is feeling "horny" normal? [g]  If so, then I’d have to say that I was not during my major depression episodes.  With the depression more or less under control, I’d say that I do feel "horny" now and then, but still much less often than my wife would like.  :*) =Jaguar=

Yes, 10 mgs of Prozac will help with withdrawal.  It’s much easier to stop Prozac.  I had no trouble with stopping after being on it a year.  That long half life makes it much easier. Joy

  • Please help me – what are these symptoms about?

    Question:

I was diagnosed without ever having a classic manic episode about 8 years ago.  I was hospitalized for 6 weeks and put on Lithium and Effexor, which about a month ago I flushed down the toilet because I feel I have "lost" the past 8 years to a drug induced lack of motivation and depression/anxiety. Today I feel that if a family member approached me, I would scream obsenities at them without being able to control myself.  I feel like a caged animal in so much emotional pain that the crying is not cleansing . . . it is just involuntary weeping and aching.  I can’t shut my body down, although I haven’t gone without sleep for more than 2 days at a time so it’s not a cut and dried mania which is what my Doctor of course wants to label me as and stick me back on Lithium or Tegretol or Lamactil or Zyprexa or Risperdal or Depakote – all of which I’ve tried – all of which except for the Lithium were INTOLERABLE medications and given to me without ever having a single grandiose thought or classic manic symptom. TODAY is what is important though.  TODAY I wish I were dead.  TODAY I have no hope, no future, I’m racked with guilt, sobbing jags, hostility that is so strong I have made 3 telemarketers hang up on ME for being abusive verbally – I am snarling at my parents to STAY AWAY from  me because I can’t help my hair trigger reactions – I am truly MISERABLE. Any thoughts?  Ideas?  Am I still going through withdrawal from the medications I flushed down the toilet?  If so, I can gut it out . . . because I’d much rather be drug free (wouldn’t we all) but it this sounds to you like something you have experience with or knowledge of PLEASE respond with ANY information or ideas. Thank you. ~Melissa

Hi Melissa, It sounds to me as if you have agitation and anxiety to the extreme.  You say that lithium does not disagree with you for the depression part – that’s good; until you get the depression under control, can you ask your doc. for some benzos? I am sorry you feel so bad, try to stay away from stimulation and call your doc for tranqs at least temporarily. take care Squiggles

    Response:

Sorry for top-posting, but here is a good place to start if you happen to live in one of these states:   http://www.coloradonocall.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Links They say by next year all states will have banned phone solicitation. FYI, my daily dose is 60mg paxil, 400mg seroquel and 60mg inderal. I’ve got terminal psychosis nos, since childhood, and my prognosis for recovery is somewhere between very poor to hopeless.  But these medications are helping me to cope with my condition very well. Good luck on finding the right combination of medications to help you cope with your diagnosed condition, which sounds very serious to me. I am sure glad you are enjoying your ‘drug vacation’ so much.  Sounds wonderful. Just exactly what do YOU think your diagnosis is if the doctors are so wrong? Read your post again.  Pretend it was written by someone else.  What would YOU suggest to this person? I couldn’t take lithium after about a year because it caused me to have diarrhea all the time.  My pdoc put me on Neurontin and Seroquel.  I feel "normal" for the first time since I can remember.  I do not feel dopey or drugged.  I FEEL GOOD.  No depression at all.  Sleep good. It really sounds to me like you are really going to run into trouble if you don’t get under control. Well, you asked.

    Response:

hi Melissa… I think most psychiatric med users would caution against a fast withdrawal of meds (you mentioned flushing them down the toilet, which seems like a pretty sudden action). The caution can be because you could potentially experience some unpleasant physical/emotional side effects. Hang in there and try to work with your docs to find the right set of meds for you. Sometimes it isn’t easy to find the right combo, but try to be "mighty" and stick with it until you find those meds that will make a difference for you. regards, Compucat  >^+^<

Celexa made me hypo-manic and angry – rageful might be more accurate. Effexor is working much better for me.  Effexor has an anti-anxiety component that Celexa doesn’t have.  I don’t know if that’s why I feel better on it, but I definitely do. Louise

Hi.  I don’t have anxiety, but I lurk here as my husband suffers from anxiety/panic attacks/depression.  I do, however, take Effexor for depression and I LOVE it!  It immediately gave me a boost.  Actually, I was almost euphoric for the first few weeks.  I noticed that I began dreaming again since I’ve been on it.  (Before, I was sleeping, but not dreaming.)  I won’t say that these dreams have been lucid or realistic, just more of them.  I sort of figured that if the AD allows you to relax or feel normal, then your brain can get back to its normal activity.  I’ve never been one to have dreams that could be explained.  My dreams are sooo weird; they are short; one flows into another…almost like an "pop-artsy" music video: snippets of images flowing one after the other in a nonsensical fashion. I have not linked these dreaming episodes with missed doses of the AD.  I will try to pay closer attention should I miss another dose. Blackbird

I was on Effexor … twice.  Each time I felt, within a matter of a few days, an emotional boost or uplifting … perhaps similar to your own. No other AD med I had tried had such an early effect. In fact, Effexor was the only AD I tried which had any (perceivable) positive effect upon me.  The only major problem (for me) with was it’s negative effect on my libido and sexual performance capability. Both essentially disappeared.  So, I chose, both times to drop the Effexor once I felt that my major depression episodes were "under control".  The withdrawal symptoms from Effexor where pretty bad (for me), but that’s another story. >I noticed that I began dreaming again since I’ve been on it.  (Before, >I was sleeping, but not dreaming.)  I won’t say that these dreams have >been lucid or realistic, just more of them.  I sort of figured that if >the AD allows you to relax or feel normal, then your brain can get back >to its normal activity.  I’ve never been one to have dreams that could be >explained.  My dreams are sooo weird; they are short; one flows into >another…almost like an "pop-artsy" music video: snippets of images >flowing one after the other in a nonsensical fashion. >I have not linked these dreaming episodes with missed doses of the AD. >I will try to pay closer attention should I miss another dose. >Blackbird

Vivid dreams were another effect of Effexor which I loved and now miss. Sometimes, I was actually eager to go to sleep just so that I could experience them.   =Jaguar= http://www.jaglair.com/psych/jag-psych-center.htm http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/Depression-Suicide

  • New to Paxil…Headache

    Question:

My dr. has perscribed Paxil 20mg. for my depression.  It’s the first time in my life I have taken an antidepressant and I have alot of questions. My doctor filled me in on all the standard stuff, but I would like some firsthand experience answers. I have only been on the medication for 4 days but I am noticing a few changes: not worring as much, a little more ambition.  I am wondering whether this could be the medication or just a placibo effect because I  am finally doing something.  The changes are not dramatic, just a little inkling of an idea in the back of my mind that things may be getting better. Secondly, I had a tremendous headache yesterday and a dry mouth.  The headache went away with a couple ibuprophin, but the dry mouth is still with me.  Has anyone had this experience? I have a loss of appetite because of some slight nasuea, but that rights itself after a couple of crackers.   Other than that I’m starting to notice that the sun is shining today and the sky is that crayola color of "sky blue".  Maybe I’ll go outside today. Both.  While Paxil takes 4-6 weeks to take full effect the sense of wellness that you are getting from the placibo effect is getting you to become more active, the endorphine effect. > Secondly, I had a tremendous headache yesterday and a dry mouth.  The > headache went away with a couple ibuprophin, but the dry mouth is > still with me.  Has anyone had this experience?

Headaches are an early side effect that will go away.  Dry mouth appears to be standard with any antidepressant. > I have a loss of appetite because of some slight nasuea, but that > rights itself after a couple of crackers. > Other than that I’m starting to notice that the sun is shining today > and the sky is that crayola color of "sky blue".  Maybe I’ll go > outside today.

I have been on efexor since february. It was hard, very hard, I had tremors, headaches, I couldn’t eat or sleep, I was even allergic to my pets. Not to talk about my sex life. Now we are in May, I am ok, all the side effects are gone, ALL of them, and believe me nobody pays me to say this. I am happy because I decided to continue the cure, now my mood has improved, I am active – before this I couldn’t get up from the bed – and hopeful for the future. Good luck for you and me! B

I had to stop Effexor XR due to the side effects (I was up to 187 mg. daily). I am now on 60 mg. Celexa (just dropped myself down from 70 mg. because the brain fog is just too much to deal with, even with not being at work right now). Mason, what side effects are you getting from Celexa? I am also taking the mood stabilizer Neurontin (2400 mg. day). My short term memory is absolutely horrible, and my longer term memory does not seem as exact as it should be. — regards, Compucat  >^+^<

I’ve read up on this medication and heard that it was suppose to be the best thing out there.  I recently tried some samples of Effexor Xr and I didn’t like the way it made me feel.  I was having horrible headaches and felt sick and just slept hoping that it would pass.  I haven’t taken any since then. Is this a common response?

I couldn’t handle the side effects.  I’m on Celexa now with much better tolerance. — Mason Barge "People who like this sort of thing will find this the sort of thing they like."         — Abraham Lincoln
