That is exactly what I would suggest too. My rehearsal space is an unfinished basement with lots o’ concrete. My Ashdown rig sounds boomy as hell down there. Nothing I do helps the sound. But at the gig, or in a better room… Wow… It’s like a completely different amp. Don’t blame the amp until you have played it in a few different places. Cheers, Chris

That is normal. You should really only use one cable though. If you’re lucky, the inputs on the speaker and the outputs on the amp are paralleled, so the double cabling just reduces your speaker cable resistance by half. The lower lead resistance does nothing to the power output of the amp, so that’s why you don’t hear any change in volume. How do you set the EQ on your bass? try setting it all flat and see if that changes things…you may be applying too much bass boost. — Brian Rost Stargen, Inc.

You only need one connection to the speaker. Two speaker outs on the amp mean that you can run two cabs directly off the amp.Two imputs on the cab means you can run one line from the amp to cab and then attach another cab to the first cab. Try setting everything flat (everything in the middle), meaning the tone controls on the bass and the eq on the head. Start from there and adjust to try and get a decent tone. You should get a very nice tone out of that head. I have a TE AH300SMC that sounds great though it’s not very loud. Only use one speaker wire. The two outputs on the head are for two separate cabinets and the two inputs on the cabinet, well, only one is an input…pick one. It shouldn’t matter which one. The other one then becomes an output to run to another separate cabinet. This give you two different ways to hook up two cabinets if you had two. Series or parallel. Some cabinets, like my Hartke, only have one input so if I wanted to run two identical cabinets I’d have to hook it up in parallel. I had an Ibanez once. General rule of thumb is either: A> You will spend all the money you can, all the time, until you stop playing music (GAS) or B> Dont worry about quipment and just work on technique I fit into both categories 8-). Though my experience with Ibanez basses is that they SUCK! I am sure that there are some good ones out there, but I haven’t found any made in the last 10 years. My chief complaint against Ibanez basses are that they tend to have a very unfocused bottom end which could account for the sounds that you are hearing. If possible, take your amp rig to a local music store and try out several different basses through it. I think you will find that most of them have a better bottom end sound than yours. Good luck!

I would have thought you can’t plug both into the same cab!!! my GK head says on the back ‘DO NOT CONNECT THESE OUTPUTS TO THE SAME SPEAKER’…. try only putting one in and using that tone? Sam

Now my wife has been the most understand and patient person that I know. We have been happily married for almost 15 years and this is our third episode of major depression. Is this normal, I have never felt like someone was going to hurt me before? I have been on Effexor for almost 3 weeks now.

Akela, Paranioa is not uncommon in m-d. I was on effexor, but decided to try something different, because it increased my mania. We all have feelings that we are afraid to feel. Remember, they are just feelings, not what you think. Talk to your pdoc, amybe he/she can help. Smooth sailing, Cathy

Three years ago I was diagnosed as Bipolar II and after going on various meds, finally found a good pdoc and was taking 75 mg of Effexor and 100 mg of Lamictal. About two years ago, after some consideration, I took myself off of the Lamictal because I hated the way it tasted. I had seen another pdoc (old one was no longer on my insurance) and brought up to him that I didn’t think I was Bipolar. He really didn’t discuss it with me and I haven’t seen him since. For two years I’ve been on Effexor. If I was truly Bipolar, I surely would have had a manic episode by now. Yesterday I saw a new pdoc. Once again, I voiced my concern that I do not believe I am Bipolar. I know there is something that isn’t quite right, but I don’t think Bipolar is it. We determined that I have the following symptoms: Mania Spending large amount of money Depression Episodes that only last for about two days Extreme irritability He said that I do not have enough symptoms of either depression or mania to classify me as Bipolar. Instead, my new diagnosis is Cyclothymic because I do experience extreme mood swings. I will be perfectly happy and then the smallest thing will send me into a rage. He wants me to slowly go off of the Effexor and has prescribed Trileptal. Does anyone here have any experience with that drug and Cyclothymia? Also, has anyone ever been declined life insurance due to a Bipolar diagnosis? I had never been declined for any type of insurance, but last week I received a letter from my life insurance company denying me coverage due to the bipolar diagnosis. They said if I could submit any other information that may make them reconsider their decision, I could try. I should think that the fact that since I was diagnosed, I have always worked full time and gone to school full time and graduated with a Bachelor degree should be proof enough that I am in fact, not unable to manage whatever it is that is not right with me, would any of you agree? Thanks alot. Greatly appreciated. The discovery of meds to treat my problem was nothing short of fantastic. I am willing and prepared to experience almost any diverse effect of medication in order to find a means to alleviate my problem.

Not being a doctor, I must qualify, but I’d say no. Viagra along with some type of stimulation, certainly begets a nice stiffy. But if the problem, psychologically or physically induced, is premature ejaculation, I would think Viagra would only allow one to prematurely ejaculate more often. — MC proud of the 2002 World Series Champion Anaheim Angels!

I was beginning to think that this website had a special decoder built into it which scrambled my posts and changed them into Chinese at the other end! m~, many people don’t think so, but I HAVE seen it mentioned once or twice that it works for this purpose. I’m still on my first SSRI, which is Zoloft/Lustral. I intend to go through the entire SSRI family until I find a means to a cure. I’ll keep praying. I haven’t tried anything else, including Viagra, but if I ever reach that stage, I’ll try to remember to post my results.

Psychiatrists castrate you this is what they do never be able to do this again ever again. Thanks Andrew. Very informative post, however, I am pretty much clued up on all that kind of stuff. The problem is that even if a man and his wife share a whole day of mental foreplay followed by 2-3 hours of physical foreplay, all of which produces a number of orgasms for the wife, at the end of it all, you still want intercourse to last a little for more than a few seconds! Even though intercourse itself may not produce an orgasm, the woman does love the feel and thought of it, which ofcourse gives her great pleasure. Ive never posted here before. But I need some damn help. I was first diagnosed with depression and panic disorder a little over a year ago. I made progress on zoloft and therapy. over the past month or so Ive had returning symptoms, very bad panic attacks, high anxiety, depressed mood….but also with all of this extreme irratibility. At first I didnt even notice, then people were telling me how I was acting that I was lashing out and snapping at them. I had no clue at first. Then I started experiencing mood swings from parts of the day feeling great, hyper, talkative very happy…then all of the sudden I can just crash into depressed feelings, bad anxiety. I feel no normalcy. Could this be a sign of bipolar? I just dont know, Im really really worried. At times I feel like I dont even know if I can control anger and the irritibillity. Other times I want to fall asleep and never wake up again. I was doing so well and now I feel like Im going backwards. After 2 weeks of the anxiety/depression returning my doc started switching over to effexor. last week I started klonopin for the anxiety just for a couple weeks till the effexor is up to a theraputic dose I guess. It seems to have leveled me out a little but I just dont know……anyone have any experiences like this? HELP PLEASE!

Effexor XR had been a nightmare for me! It did nothing for my depression, while making me irritable and physically sick the whole time I took it. But once you try to get off of it is when you experience the worst of what Effexor has to offer. I’ve been trying to get off it for over two weeks and have been extremely sick for the majority of it. Withdrawal from Effexor is absolutely awful. My advice would be to stay away from this drug because even if it had helped my depression, this withdrawal is bad enough to cancel out any positives. Also, because of the short half life, you get these withdrawal symptoms even if you’re just a few hours late with your dose. Do a search on the web under Effexor withdrawal, you’ll pull up tons of sites with personal stories that should help you make your decision. Good luck!

Hi Mary Kay, I have been of Effexor for years. First the regular type, then the XR. For me, Effexor XR has worked pretty well with few side effects. Mind you I had a couple of years to get over the side effects before starting XR. The symptoms you have if you forget to take a does are very unpleasant, but the XR has mitigated this problem. There also seems to be some amelioration of OCD although that is not what Effexor is designed to do. Memo to self: correction. I have taken Celexa, in combination with Epival, if I remember correctly. It was the only SSRI out of four I’ve had that seemed to have any effect whatsoever. Hi all, Been lurking for a while and decided it was time to come out and play. I have been going through Bipolar hell for a few weeks now and thought I would come in and ask for some help and advice. My name is Mary Kay. I am a newbie to this board but not to newsgroups. I have been doing the Bipolar rollercoaster. Manic one minute depressed as hell the next. Ultra rapid cycling. Within the space of an hour I am going from euphoric to wishing I was dead. Then to top it all off, I have been cutting. Not the first time and probably not the last. Finally went to see my P’doc. It was the first time I had ever told him about the cutting. I half expected him to lock me up and throw the key. But he just just looked at me, smiled and said sounds like we need to tighten the screws up on your meds. Needless to say I breathed a huge sigh of relief. I am now on Effexor XR, Trileptal, this is in addition to Topamax and Ativan which was already in my daily regime. He has me weaning off Celexa as we decided it crapped out. Effexor-XR and insomnia :o(

ive been on effexor-xr for a week now. i started at 37.5 mg and just went to 75mg. i have felt a lot different and have had some bad problems with insomnia. i got maybe an hour of sleep last night. does this go away and is there anything i can do about it? has anyone had such experience?

Yes, most of the symptoms go away after awhile. I also started on 37.5, but took 2 weeks before increasing to 75 mg. It took me about 7 to 10 days to adjust to that dose level. Give your brain time to adjust before changing (increasing or decreasing). My dr suggested taking Effexor XR in the morning with breakfast to lessen the insomnia affects. Personally I think the sleep disturbances I had with Effexor XR was not insomnia per se, but just the "shock" of something new in my system. It has gone away pretty much. I’ve been taking this for about 3 months now. Generic drugs – Wellbutrion (Bupropion?)

My pharmacy just switched from one generic supplier of Bupropion to a different one. Even though they are both Generic forms of Wellbutrin it seems like the new brand isn’t working as well. Is it possible for one generic brand to work better than another?

I wasn’t aware there was a generic available, but then I haven’t bought any for a year. It’s always possible for one generic to work better than another for some people. The active stuff is supposed to be exactly the same but inactive ingredients can differ, which should not make a difference to MOST people but could in some. karmakat

Ditto. I just re-enrolled with a new insurance company and both my meds (Effexor and Welbutrin) are on their list of ":preferred" drugs… a list of common prescription meds for which there is no generic equivalent. And my doc didn’t seem to know of a generic, either. That’s interesting. If it’s really out there, I’d love to know about it. My meds cost an arm and a leg.

Celexa and Nausea

I recently was prescribed Celexa. I am only taking 5 mg each day to start with. I have had great trouble sleeping lately so in the wee hours of the morning yesterday I finally took a shot of my parent’s hard alcohol (I never touch the stuff normally!) and I mean only about 4 tablespoons worth. I have been so nauseated and sick that I feel as bad as a person on Effexor XR trying to withdraw! (LOL! Only on this newsgroup would people "get" that!) Is it the whiskey? Or is it the CELEXA itself? I HATE low-level nausea in a medication!! I felt this way on Serzone and it drove me bonkers – gave it about 3 weeks and then said, "FORGET IT!" Anyone else have trouble with stomach upset and Celexa? Or am I just suffering from drinking the alcohol? Thanks, and please be merciful! ~Melissa

I’ve been on Celexa about 2 months at 20 mg per day. I got the nausea during the first week, but it slowly went away. I don’t think the alcohol did much – I still enjoy the occasional drink of single malt scotch, and it hasn’t caused any nausea.
